Wingstop Acquired by Roark Capital Group.

April 13, 2010

It was announced yesterday that Atlanta, Georgia-based Roark Capital Group — the same private equity firm that owns the brand names CarvelCinnabonSchlotzsky’sMoe’s Southwest Grill, and is a major franchisor of Seattle’s Best Coffee — purchased Wingstop Restaurants, Inc. Now, if you know me personally, you know that I love Wingstop and that I believe that hand-cut fries are the greatest thing in the world — next to my wife. So this acquisition could possibly effect my life and the many others who are addicted to the wings experts’ amazing flavors and special fry seasoning. I sure hope this acquisition doesn’t have any ill effects on the Wingstop brand like running joint operations with Moe’s or Schlotzsky’s. I will say this though, Focus Brands, Roark’s restaurant management affiliate/subsidiary who has strategically managed the aforementioned brands for years, has done an awesome job positioning the chains for success and future growth. They have only combined the brands that naturally compliment each other, like Carvel and Cinnabon for example, that helps raise awareness of the lesser-known brand by placing it with a nationally-known brand.

To Roark Capital Group I have only two things to say: (1) This might be one of your best acquisitions yet, and (2) DON’T MESS THIS UP FOR ME!
