Genius. Genius. Genius.
I love quoting “Mr. French” from Adam Sandler’s movie, Mr. Deeds — and this time it truly applies. People of McKinney, we finally have a cool, modern place to hang out and bring our visiting friends when showing off our town. Last night, ten of us stopped by Square Burger (115 North Kentucky Street) for the first time after church to try the highly anticipated grub. And yes, our church does meet on Saturday nights. It might sound weird, but it’s really cool.
Anyway, let me tell you about this burger… I ordered their signature burger, the Square Burger, and was blown away. A lot of gourmet burgers have thick buns that make biting it a little complicated, but this bread was like an edible, firm pillow. Pretty darn perfect, I’d say. The red and orange tomato combination added a really nice, posh touch to the whole thing. The beef was perfectly seasoned and carried a classic yet organic flavor. Though I am partial to fire-grilled burgers, these patties were juicy and seared to perfection. Here’s the only downfall… When I see mixed baby greens on the menu, I expect a salad blend of lettuce, possibly tossed with a light vinaigrette, delicately placed upon the burger. What I got was plain, ol’ Iceberg. DANG!
Overall, I give the burger, Square Burger, an 8 out of 10 and I give the restaurant, Square Burger, an 11 out of 10. Being open to 11:00pm when everyone else closes hours earlier is awesome. The atmosphere, made up of people enjoying each others company with a really cool soundtrack playing in the background, makes you feel like you’re in a big city while being right in the middle of Small Town USA. And the host and servers were on their A-game. If you want a nice place to take a date or to chill with several of your closest friends in McKinney, Square Burger is definitely the place.
